Visiting The Disaster Site

To visit the site of the wreck you can park your car at the trailhead entrance to the Indian Trails Park. After you park, make sure you check out the sign that describes the event. It’s then a short ¼ mile walk down the trail back to the disaster site were a newer arch railroad bridge is now in service over the original disaster site. If you walk under the bridge, you can still find old sand stone and wood pilings that were part of the original arches to the bridge.

From the Ashtabula Hospital at 2422 Lake Ave, Ashtabula, OH 44004 take East 24th Street across the river. As soon as you cross the river the park will be on your right. It’s a small gravel parking area, so if you blink you will miss it.
